Things to Consider When Taking Home A Precious New Kitten

Kitties have a natural tendency to want to potty in the gravel or dirt where cats can scratch. Also little kittens start to learn from their mother, so by the time your kitty is available to be brought to your home utilizing a litter box will probably feel comfortable to her. She will probably need a small bit of direction however.

Felines are personal with their litter box habits so be sure you put the litter box in a quiet place that the kitten can readily enter. When you take her home bring her over to the litter box and place her in it. She will probably jump out yet that’s okay. You want to get her comfortable with it. It’s good to put her in the litter box a few times a day until you notice she is using it regularly. If you notice her using it step back and let her have her privacy.

Cats usually begin using the litter box pretty rapidly, however if for some cause your kitten isn’t utilizing it don’t punish her. This will befuddle her or cause stress which might lead to additional troubles. Rather than reprimand it’s best to clean the mess well and begin putting her in the litter box more oftentimes until she starts getting the hang of it.

If she keeps messing beyond the litter box watch to see if she is either straining to go to the bathroom or is suffering from diarrhea. These could be indications of a medical problem which may be causing the litter box issues. In this event you will need to consult your vet.

You’ll have much greater luck litter training your kitten if you keep the litter box in a silent room where the kitten feels safe. Maintain the litter box away from high traffic areas and away from obnoxious appliances. The litter box also must be convenient, so if you have multiple levels in your house you must keep a litter box on every level. And keep all litter boxes apart from the kitty’s eating area. Not unlike us felines don’t enjoy going to the potty where they enjoy meals.

I hope this helps you get a good start with your new kitten. But if anything goes wrong, you might look for more information on enzyme cleaners. I know it can be an unpleasant topic, but understanding how to deal with cat spraying will be critical to you and your beloved kitty’s happiness.

You should maintain one litter box for every feline plus 1 additional one. I know this may be difficult in tiny houses or condos so at least have 1 litter box per feline.
