What causes tinnitus that millions of folks suffer from? There are many things that cause tinnitus, sometimes hard to define. Damage to the ear is usually the cause of tinnitus. This can be caused by medical conditions such as injury or infection.

If the tiny hairs in your inner ear are damaged this could be the cause of tinnitus. When these hairs come in contact with sound waves, they will move. Motion triggers an electrical signal to be sent to your brain through the auditory nerve and on to your brain which translates it to sound.

These hairs get damaged and they send random electrical impulse to the brain causing tinnitus. Aging can cause impaired hearing. Otosclerosis is often a cause of changes which occur in the bones of the ear. Earwax accumulation. Injuries either in the head or neck. Another inner ear disorder is called Meniere’s disease.

Acoustic neuroma that develops on the carnial nerve between brain and the inner ear is non-cancerous tumor. This is a condition that can be a cause of tinnitus in addition to affecting a person’s hearing and balance. People are inclined to believe that stress and depression trigger tinnitus but many experts don’t concur.

While tinnitus is believed to contribute to a person’s level of stress and depression, this can become a vicious cycle as these conditions can actually worsen the symptoms of the tinnitus. Tinnitus can be caused by numerous types of medications, such those used in treatment of cancer, excessive aspirin, water pills, antibiotics,Quinine. Intermittent or continuous sounds can be heard.

Hypertention triggered high blood pressure along with stress and caffeine consumption can be some causes of pulsatile tinnitus. Aging or cholesterol build-up is due to having Atherosclerosis. The head or neck are common locations where tumors are formed. Malformation of capillaries that are formed between the veins and arteries. • Any condition that causes the flow of blood to fluctuate. Tinnitus can be caused by chronic health problems and exposure to loud noises. If you are exposed to any type of loud noise on a regular basis then this can damage your ears. If you work around noisy machines or listen to loud music on a regular basis, it is highly advisable that you use ear plugs. While you can have temporary problems due to short-term exposure, if the exposure takes place over a longer period it can cause more serious and permanent damage.

Risk of aquiring tinnitus is minimized if you take care of your health. Eat healthy, stay away from loud noises, exercise on a regular basis and protect your hearing at all times. If you ride a motorcycle or participate in things which are likely to damage your head and neck, be certain to use a helmet.
